Mission Statement
"How good the good God is...why can't we proclaim it to the whole world!"
(Saint Julie Billiart, Foundress, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur)
Moreland Notre Dame School is an expression of the educational mission of
the
Catholic Church and teaching ministry of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
Faculty and staff, in partnership with parents, work to provide students with
the foundations of Christ-centered faith and life-long learning: love, hope,
simplicity; a longing for justice and truth, a desire to serve others, the power
of critical thinking, and a sense of awe and wonder.
School Profile
Moreland Notre Dame School, in partnership with parents, seeks to create
an
environment where students grow in their understanding of themselves as
children of God and important members of the Church and community through
prayer, the sacraments, liturgy, and service to others. We aspire to be a
Catholic school in the tradition of the Sisters of Notre Dame, in which
students can learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment in the
company of teachers, staff, and classmates. In the words of Saint Julie
Billiart, we work to teach our students, "whatever is necessary to equip them
for life." Established in 1899, Moreland Notre Dame has served the community of
Watsonville for over a century.
Curriculum
Moreland Notre Dame School offers an environment in which students are
challenged to develop their academic potential, and individual needs are
recognized. In keeping with the guidelines of the Diocese of Monterey and
the charism of the Sisters of Notre Dame, religion is taught daily in all
classrooms, and Gospel values permeate the curriculum. Enhancing the core
curriculum of religion, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science
and health, are Spanish, computer education, art, music, and physical
education. Our Borina Computer Laboratory and learning center assist
us in offering a curriculum that is up to date and meets the individual needs
of students. The newly renovated Nancy Crawford Kniffin Memorial Library
provides an opportunity for students and faculty to utilize traditional
and technical resources when performing research.
Accreditation
Moreland Notre Dame Elementary School is fully accredited by the Western
Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic
Educational Association (WCEA).
