Mission Statement

Sacred Heart School is dedicated to serving students of varied ethnic and economic backgrounds from many parishes in the Diocese of Monterey. We are committed to developing the unique potential of each child, and educating the whole person to live a life of love and service in the spirit of Jesus.

School Profile

Sacred Heart School is located within the central business district of the city of Salinas. Although affiliated with Sacred Heart Parish, the school itself serves students from 13 other parishes. Through the efforts of a parent group, bus service is provided to students living in the southern part of the Salinas Valley. There is a definite commitment on the part of these parents to provide a quality Catholic education for their children. Many of our students are second- or third-generation descendents of former students who attended Sacred Heart School since its founding in 1906. Of the student population, approximately 75% are from ethnic minorities.

Curriculum

Through our curriculum we guide students of varied abilities toward academic excellence and responsible, moral decision-making in a world of advanced technology and challenged Christian values. Sacred Heart School offers a strong, academic program though comprehensive K-8 curriculum which emphasizes basic skills in reading, math, language arts, social studies, and science. Specialists provide physical education, computer, Spanish and music instruction. A middle math  teacher is available for students with special learning differences. In addition to a full academic program, our curriculum is supplemented through an after-school sports program, student council,  student-prepared liturgies and prayer services, and an extended-care program.

Accreditation

Sacred Heart School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA).
